in vitro oink Duration: ca 13" Instrumentation: Piano, electronics and wii remote Composed: 2009 Production Details: in vitro oink is a composition by Christopher Jette for piano,
electronics (both precomposed and generative) and wii controller. Keith
Kirchoff is the performer in this video and the person who commissioned
this piece.
The performers movements are tracked by the wii controller and this
data is used as a basis for generative material. The piano part is
derived from an analysis of the small granular sounds that are the
building blocks for this piece. The title is a reference to the event
in November 2009, where scientists from the Netherlands created meat in
the lab, from living cells.

Inter Duration: 7'40" Instrumentation: Fixed Media Composed: 2008 Production Details:This composition is a means of exploring the various means of moving between layers of sounds. The sounds can be divided into several realms; transients, drones recognizable gestures and those that are not recognized. The compositional goal is to explore how the different layers of sounds, juxtapositions of sounds and the various morphologies can provide the listener with the indications of a continually altering virtual space.
Susone Duration: 7'48" Instrumentation: solo trombone live processing and fixed media Composed: 2007 Details: This composition was commissioned by Mark Broschinsky on the occasion of his Doctoral recital at Manhattan School of Music. The composition was first performed in Santa Barbara in the spring of 2007 and the in New York in the fall. The electronics of this piece are presented in a four channel array so that the decomposed spectrum of the trombone might be reassembled by the listener.

| pq Duration: 17'03" Instrumentation: Violin, Viola & Cello Composed: 2007 Recording Details: Recorded live at the Pescadrome in Santa Barbara, CA. 1-2007 Notes: This durations of the performers sounds is controlled by the length of their exhalation. The performers are deprived of the ability to hear. In these ways, neither the composer, nor the performers are in direct control of what the listener experiences.

Sofater Instrumentation: Electronic Score, Improvised Woodwind(s) Composed: 2005 Recording Details: The electronic component was played though two loud speakers, the video (created by Mark Gleicher and myslef) and the Bass Clarinet, Alto Flute and Piccolo was improvised by Jullee Avalone (based on guidelines I suggested). This audio performance was recorded in Jordan Hall 4-2005 and blended with the movie that was projected at the time

BU DE SEA Instrumentation: Solo Piano Composed: 2002 Recording Details: This was performed in Jordan Hall 4-2005 by Yvonne Lee on the occasion of her winning the NEC Piano Department Contemporary Music Competition. She also premiered these pieces in 10-2003
Snapshots Instrumentation: Violin, Viola, Cello & Piano Composed: 2005 Recording Details:
This piece posits the acoustic beats that are generated by a piano as a rhythmic pulse for the other instruments. The listener is invited to contrast the pulse that they perceive with those that the string players project. This piece was first presented in Cambridge MA on the occasion of my graduation from the New England Conservatory for my good friend and mentor Holly at a concert presented in her home.

Monodactyl Instrumentation: 3 sine tones Composed: 2007 Recording Details: This is a video of plaster of paris that is activated by the adjoining sound composition. The live performance version features a realtime video enhancement. ::NOTE:: It is important to listen with high quality audio playback devices such as a pair of stereo speakers or good headphones as the audio is predominantly composed of low frequencies.
Light Instrumentation: Recorded sounds processed Composed: 2008 Recording Details: This video was done by Alejandro Casazi and the sound is done by Christopher Jette. This is a prelude to Lungen, a live theater piece presented in 2008 at UCSB and funded by an IHC grant for collaborative works.
Daiku Instrumentation: Processing of a single Koto pluck. Composed: 2008 Recording Details: Video by Alejandro Casazi and sound by Christopher Jette.
Prelude3Lungen Instrumentation: Electronic sounds Composed: 200 Recording Details: Video by Alejandro Casazi and sound by Christopher Jette.
Impact Instrumentation: Electronic sounds Composed: 2009 Recording Details: Sounds hand crafted to accompany algorithmically generated images.
Retrato Instrumentation: Electronic sounds Composed: 2009 Recording Details:
Video
realized by Alejandro Casazi and sound by Christopher Jette. This piece
was installed in 16 channel audio in the UCSB Trans Lab in the Spring
of 2009. The metaphor that inspired Alejandro and Christopher was a
notion of the 3 distinct body systems, that of the brain, the heart and
the nervous system. This metaphor served as a point of departure for
this piece. |

:: Field Recording ::
SealsStereo
Description: This is a recording that was made in St. Paul Alaska where the Northern Fur Seals were breeding.
Date: 6/2005
Ravens of Wrangell Description: This is a recording of the neighborhood birds, mostly the ravens, in Wrangell Alaska. There is one moment of silence, lasting 3 seconds in the middle. I did not edit this recording down to only bird sounds as I feel the pace and the ambient sounds provide a wonderful context for the raven calls. Date: 7/2006

| These are a series of fun little pieces that I whipped out in a night each. They are intended to be entertaining pop dities so I thought I'd share 1. Shimmer 2. Ripping Bells 3. Cat Calla 4. Chz Dark 5. SilentNight - for x-mas 05 Christopher's 1 year old nephews recieved a recording of the perennial favorite.... reworked. 6. 6.6.06 - This is a piece that I wrote in honor of June 6 in 2006. It is for two turntables and was performed live on KSTK public radio in Wrangell AK.
| | | :: Noise ::
Noise 1 - An experiment in additive synthesis. Created on the laptop and designed to be a live performance. created 12/06
Noise 2 - Filtering of Pink noise. It is soft in the beginning. Created on the laptop and designed to be a live performance. Created 1/07
GrainBot (12;30") - A deliberately linear experiment in granular synthesis, this is the result of nine streams of grains where the amplitude of frequencies is derived from an FFT of a trombone playing B2. Essentially this takes linear information and presents it horizontally in an improvisational manner. Created 7/07
MIXImix (7'50") - This subtle and dripping improvisation combines granular synthesis and a prerecorded sample (from Alaska). The granular synthesis employs amplitude information that is derived from the sample, which is presented with. MIXI refers to the midi mixing consul that controls the MAX patch. Created 8/07
GrainPerf1.2 (26'06") - This slowly evolving soundscape is the result of a MAX patch that is designed for live performance. This performance combines samples and granular synthesis, similar to MIXImix, in a novel fashion. Created 8/07
GrainSTALL1 (19'24") - A contrast of subtly shifting resonance and frenetic events. This experiment in granulation combines two sounds files that are cycled are recycled, entering into the evolution of sounds through the granular stretching of the samples. The effect is literally that of stalling the passing of time. Created 8/07
